Four updates shipped in September. Here's what changed — and what it unlocks for your workflow.
TL;DR: September 2026 Update - Public MCP Servers — Share a URL. Anyone connects your server to their AI — no MCP Express account, no OAuth required.
- RAG Tool — Upload a document, turn it into an MCP tool. Your AI searches it and pulls back the most relevant passages to answer a question.
- Sign In with Google — Get into MCP Express faster. No separate password needed.
- Bug Fixes — Minor reliability improvements across the platform.

Public MCP Servers: One URL, Instant Connection
Private MCP servers — the default — require the person connecting to have an MCP Express account and go through OAuth to authenticate. That's the right setup for internal tools and client workspaces.
Public servers work differently. Enable the option when creating a server, and you get a URL. Anyone with that URL pastes it directly into Claude or their AI client and connects — no MCP Express account, no OAuth, no setup on their end. All the tools on that server are immediately available to them.
Here's where this gets useful:
Sharing a server with a non-technical client. You've built a server with the tools a client needs. Instead of walking them through an account setup, you send a URL. They paste it in. Done.
Onboarding a team that doesn't use MCP Express. Your team is already on Claude but not on MCP Express. You create a public server, share the URL in Slack. Everyone's connected in under a minute.
Distributing a specific toolset without account overhead. A contractor needs access to one set of tools, nothing else. A public server URL gives them exactly that scope — no account required on either side.
Since anyone with the URL can connect, share it with the right people.
The RAG tool is a new tool type in MCP Express — one you build from your own content.
Upload a markdown document and convert it into an MCP tool. From that point, your AI can search the document and return the most relevant passages to answer a question — directly inside your workflow, without you copying and pasting anything across.
Here's what that looks like in practice:
Internal documentation. You have a runbook, a process doc, or an onboarding guide sitting in markdown. Convert it into a tool. Now any AI using that server can pull from it on demand — no switching tabs, no searching manually.
Client knowledge base. You manage a client whose project has its own set of guidelines, brand rules, or technical specs. Upload the document as a tool on their server. When working on their project, your AI has the context it needs without you feeding it every time.
SOPs and reference material. Standard operating procedures that come up repeatedly in your workflow — upload them once, and they're always a question away.
The RAG tool turns static documents into something your AI can actually reason with — inside the same server as your other integrations.

Getting into MCP Express is now one step shorter. You can sign up and log in with your Google account — no separate password to create or remember.
Bug Fixes
A round of minor reliability fixes shipped this month as well. Nothing to configure on your end.
